I'm exploring a potential fix for the shell path issue and will open a PR to share progress.

Opened PR #8579 with my attempt at addressing this issue: #8579

The fix modifies getShellFromEnv() to return null when environment variables are not set, rather than returning hardcoded fallback values. This ensures the function accurately reflects whether the shell path was obtained from environment variables.

Most CI checks are passing, though there's one integration test failure that appears unrelated to this change. Feedback welcome!
