It will make the context larger and take more time; however a review after edit feature may be very good in more complex codebases.

I'm exploring a potential implementation for automatic review after file edits. This would help catch errors introduced during editing by prompting the AI to review changes. I'll share progress through a PR.

I've created PR #8928 to implement this feature: #8928

The implementation adds a new experimental feature called "Suggest review after file edits" that, when enabled, will prompt the AI to review changes after any file editing operation. This helps catch errors that might be introduced during editing.

The feature is opt-in via the experimental settings, addressing the trade-offs mentioned in the issue (increased context and time usage). Looking forward to feedback!

@roomote perhaps we should have a list of check-boxes, so the user can select the review depending on the edit-type (i.e. search and replace, rewrite file, etc...)

Thanks @da2ce7 for the suggestion! Adding checkboxes to allow users to select review based on edit type (search and replace, rewrite file, etc.) would provide more granular control. I'll explore implementing this enhancement to make the review feature more flexible. Will share progress soon.

PR #8929 has been created with the following enhancements:

✅ Implemented Features:

• Individual checkboxes for each edit operation type:
  • Apply Diff
  • Multi-Apply Diff
  • Write to File
  • Insert Content
  • Search and Replace
• Master toggle that controls all checkboxes at once
• Indeterminate state when some (but not all) operations are selected
• Full backward compatibility with the existing boolean setting

🔧 Technical Details:

• Updated the experiment system to support granular settings
• Modified all file editing tools to check their specific setting
• Created a new React component with proper state management
• Added comprehensive test coverage
• Maintained TypeScript type safety throughout

📝 Note: The CI has some failing checks (translations and compilation) that appear to be pre-existing issues in the repository. The core implementation is complete and tested locally.

The new UI provides fine-grained control exactly as you suggested - users can now select which specific edit operations should trigger file re-reading. This gives much more flexibility compared to the original all-or-nothing toggle.
