I'm exploring a potential fix for the slow codebase indexing issue. I'll look into adding functionality to exclude irrelevant folders like .git from the indexing process to improve performance.

I've opened PR #9050 with a fix to explicitly exclude .git directories from codebase indexing.

The change ensures .git folders are always excluded from file listing operations, even in edge cases where they might have slipped through before. This should improve indexing performance for repositories with large .git folders.

The PR includes comprehensive tests to verify the exclusion works in various scenarios. Feedback welcome!

Thanks for reporting this! Indexing performance is largely dependent on the model and provider you’re using - some are significantly faster than others. If the speed feels too slow, I recommend trying a different model or provider to improve responsiveness.

Note that .git folders and other irrelevant files are already excluded from indexing, so they shouldn’t affect performance.

Closing this as expected behavior, but feel free to reopen if you notice issues unrelated to provider speed.
