For quite a while already there are
registry.suse.com/bci/bci-base:16.0(and others for bci-minimal, bci-micro, bci-init and sl16-kernel-module-devel) already available. Following the release of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16.0, we're beginning switching our:latesttags to point to SUSE Linux Base Container Image 16.0 variants by default. This will happen around January 15th, 2026.Situation today:
bci/bci-base:latestpoints to / is an alias ofbci/bci-base:15.7Situation on Janary 15th and later going forward:
bci/bci-base:latestpoints to / is an alias ofbci/bci-base:16.0For now we will only switch the base operating system images and will over time add Application container images that are derived from SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 16.0. A migration path for the language stack and development containers will be announced shortly.
