Honestly, I think it is better to make a 'chip' that stores either only a 0 or 1.

from creating 256 bytes of memory
To the beginner, it will seem odd that there is no input for the 'not gate'. And in reality, a floating input on TTL/CMOS causes undesired operation for someone who is making an application of this on a breadboard or PCB. I think it should be like the input button, but pressing it won't change the state.
