Contributor Code of Conduct

Our Pledge

We as members, contributors, and maintainers pledge to make participation in the Causality project a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability (visible or invisible), ethnicity, gender identity and expression, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, sexual orientation, education level, or socio-economic status.

We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, diverse, respectful, and healthy community.

Our Standards

Positive Behaviors

Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment include:

  • Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward others
  • Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences
  • Providing and accepting constructive feedback gracefully
  • Taking responsibility for mistakes and learning from them
  • Prioritizing what's best for the community
  • Showing appreciation for others' contributions
  • Helping newcomers get started with the project

Unacceptable Behaviors

Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form
  • Trolling, insulting or demeaning remarks, and personal attacks
  • Public or private harassment
  • Publishing others' private information without explicit permission
  • Sexual harassment or unwelcome sexual attention
  • Political attacks or controversial political discussions
  • Other conduct deemed inappropriate in a professional setting

Enforcement Responsibilities

Project maintainers are responsible for clarifying and enforcing standards of acceptable behavior and will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behavior deemed inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.

Project maintainers have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned with this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all community spaces, including:

  • GitHub repositories (issues, pull requests, discussions)
  • Project communication channels (mailing lists, chat rooms)
  • Project events (meetups, conferences, hackathons)
  • Social media when representing the project

It also applies when an individual is officially representing the community in public spaces.

Enforcement

Reporting

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported to the community leaders responsible for enforcement at:

All reports will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly. All community leaders are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident.

Response Process

  1. Initial Response: Within 48 hours of receipt
  2. Investigation: Fair and thorough review of the incident
  3. Decision: Based on severity and context
  4. Communication: Clear explanation of actions taken

Consequences

Depending on the severity of the violation, consequences may include:

  1. Warning: Private written warning with clarity on the violation
  2. Public Apology: Request for public apology to affected parties
  3. Temporary Ban: Temporary ban from project spaces
  4. Permanent Ban: Permanent removal from the project community

Enforcement Guidelines

Community leaders will follow these Community Impact Guidelines in determining consequences:

1. Correction

Community Impact: Use of inappropriate language or other unprofessional behavior.

Consequence: Private written warning providing clarity around the nature of the violation and an explanation of why the behavior was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.

2. Warning

Community Impact: A violation through a single incident or series of actions.

Consequence: Warning with consequences for continued behavior. No interaction with the people involved for a specified period. This includes avoiding interactions in community spaces as well as external channels like social media.

3. Temporary Ban

Community Impact: Serious violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior.

Consequence: Temporary ban from any sort of interaction or public communication with the community for a specified period. No public or private interaction with the people involved is allowed during this period.

4. Permanent Ban

Community Impact: Demonstrating a pattern of violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, harassment, or aggression.

Consequence: Permanent ban from any sort of public interaction within the community.

Appeals

If you believe you have been unfairly sanctioned, you may appeal the decision by contacting the project maintainers with a detailed explanation of your case.

Confidentiality

All reports will be kept confidential. In situations where public statements are necessary, the identities of all victims and reporters will remain confidential unless those individuals instruct us otherwise.

This Code of Conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1.
