I really enjoyed the zooming balloons, but when using Comixology I really liked the idea of zooming and reading scene by scene.
This definitely offers a greater involvement because it is not just reading larger characters, but the whole scene is brought to the foreground and, if too large, divided into smaller scenes but large enough to be viewed without tiring the view.
