Let me preface this by saying that I am, in fact, over the age of 16 (which should be obvious if you read the README on my GitHub profile).
It has recently come to my attention that the Australian Government, along with actual social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) wants to ban GitHub, a code sharing platform, for users under the age of 16, under the Online Safety Amendment that will be coming into effect this December. Whether they will actually be banned then is still pending an assessment by the eSafety Commissioner, but knowing our government, things don't look too hopeful.
I do not agree with giving my government ID (or face recognition, etc.) to every random website I use, so as such I will be leaving this platform if GitHub ends up being included in the social media ban. Before you freak out about YAMDCC being discontinued, development of all my projects will continue on my Codeberg account. As of writing, none of my projects have been mirrored over there yet.
Failing that... well, I guess we had a good run. I'll see you all when the inevitable data breach happens (if some of these companies can't even keep an email and password safe from hackers, why should I expect them to do the same with my driver's license?)
