Add support for Microchip Curiosity Nano ATtiny1607 when used with Arduino IDE 2.x

I'm using Arduino IDE 2.3.4. I installed the released megaTinyCore through board manager and then, manually, the latest development megaTinyCore-master. I did select "Official Microchip Board" and "Curiosity Nano ATtiny1607". The code compiles without errors but doesn't work (see discussion #1211).
Would it be possible to add support for the official Microchip dev board? Just being able to get a working binary would be enough. If it was also possible to program the MCU within Arduino IDE would be great.
