I2S Audio

I am looking at using an AdaFruit I2S audio amplifier. I have the details on how to set that up but wondered if it would clash with any of the USB configuration in your make file?

If you just connect the bonnet and no USB sound, I would expect the Pi to be confused: this arcade setup explicitly (and only) configures USB sound, Audio Jack sound, and HDMI sound: usb-audio-by-default.conf.

You should be able to edit that file, once placed at /etc/modprobe.d/usb-audio-by-default.conf, to instead make the bonnet the first sound device. That should work, but to my knowledge you'd be the first to try. Good luck!

If all else fails, you can just set it as the default sound device using the Raspbian desktop sound settings GUI, which seems to always work. The "hard" part was doing it automatically from a script without the GUI.

Hi Matt,
I tried updating the file as follows

options snd_rpi_hifiberry_dac index=0
options snd_usb_audio inefaultdex=1
options snd_soc_core index=2

options snd slots=snd_rpi_hifiberry_dac,snd_usb_audio,snd_soc_core

the name I got from

pi@dancepi:~ $ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 3: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_dac], device 0: HifiBerry DAC HiFi pcm5102a-hifi-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

but it still does not default the sound card.

As you mentioned you can set the default by right clicking on the speaker icon on the desktop.

One thing I tried that did work was to delete usb-audio-by-default.conf and also delete ~/.asoundrc and that did work.

So it is working for me now
