DNS Provider Hosttech TXT-Record

Hello together,

i'm currently implementing a new provider for hosttech (small europe company, that offers dns).
I have an issue with the TXT Record, they only allow up to 255 characters and force me to split them into multiple records. What would be the best approach for the provider, should i handle the splitting and the insertion of mutliple entries (as it's interfering with the structure) or should i throw an error saying it's only supposed to be 255 characters.

If they limit TXT records to 255 characters, it's best to let a human split long records into multiple TXT records. No code can guess the best way to split a long TXT record. For example, a TXT record used for SPF is split very differently than a TXT record used for a app validation string.

I would use the provider/hosttech/auditrecords.go file to enforce the limit:

        a.Add("TXT", rejectif.TxtLongerThan(255)) 

Then dnscontrol check will report any violations.

Ive just read about this very problem in the opinionated section of dnscontrol.

No. TXT records are treated as one long string but your use of rejectif.TxtLongerThan(255) will restrict what users can do. Since their strings are limited to 255, there's no need to implement any splitting.

While i already have that discussion open: Is there a way for me inside the provider to obtain like the first defined NS Server? This provider doesn't really allow the SOA to be changed, but we can change the ns server and the email and leave the rest as is.

models.DomainConfig has a field Nameservers []*Nameserver. That contains all the NS servers for the domain. It gets that info by querying the domain's provider's API. I don't know if they arrive in any particular order.
