Trouble configuring SMTP service — emails not sending successfully

I’m currently having trouble setting up the SMTP service in digiRunner. The system isn’t able to send emails successfully, even though I’ve already verified the host, username, and password settings. It seems there might still be a configuration issue somewhere.

Could anyone kindly share a working example or a step-by-step guide for setting up SMTP in digiRunner?
I’d really appreciate any help or tips to get this working.

I'll provide a complete tutorial on how to use a personal Gmail account for the SMTP service, as this is one of the most common use cases1. You can follow the steps below to check if your configuration is correct.
Please make sure you are logged into your Gmail account and can access the "Manage your Google Account" page. Once you're ready, we'll start with the first part: Obtaining an App Password from Google.

Next, we need to generate a dedicated "App Password" for digiRunner. Please follow these steps:

1. Enable 2-Step Verification
   o On the "Manage your Google Account" page, click on "Security" on the left menu.

o Confirm that "2-Step Verification" is On. If it's not enabled, you must complete this setup first, as it's a prerequisite for using App Passwords.

2. Find and Navigate to the App Passwords Page
   o Go to the search bar at the top of the page, type "App passwords", and select the "App passwords" option that appears.
   o The system will ask you to enter your login password again to verify your identity.

3. Create a New App Password
   o In the "App name" field, enter a recognizable name, such as digiRunner, and then click "Create"7. You can customize the name, but it's recommended to avoid special characters8.

4. Copy the Generated Password
   o A 16-character App Password will be displayed on the screen. Please copy it immediately, as this password will only be shown once.

5. Please log in to digiRunner, navigate to System Configs > Setting, and update your settings according to the table below:
