Let me briefly talk about the main motivation for this
Our mission in Tech Phantoms is to help new people in tech to learn and grow faster. We do have a discord community to help with doubts and share resources among people in our community but we wanted to do more. After some brainstorming, we (me and @imabp) came up with an awesome idea, to help new programmers in our community get started with OSS.
First time contributing is really tough
I think it is natural to feel overwhelmed when you are starting your journey in open source, there are so many projects so many ideas and so many people. Where to get started, To be honest, this is something I used to feel when I started my journey, it was hard to grasp big projects as a beginner. So how can we solve this? 🤔.
🥁 🥁 We let anyone to open or transfer Project under Tech Phantoms
I know what you are thinking, why would anyone want to transfer their project to Tech Phantoms right. Let me try to answer some of the questions that you are thinking -
Why would I open a project under Tech Phantoms?
Firstly when you open a project under Tech Phantoms you retain all the rights of your project. As it is open-source anyone can use your code for free. But you get to manage and take decisions for your project, Also you can transfer back your repository at any time, you also manage your sponsorship.
Tech Phantoms staff helps you bring new potential contributors to your issue, not disclosing how we do that, we have something on our mind 😉 . We host weekly youtube live sessions where we bring you as a maintainer to talk about your project, its roadmap and how can the first-time contributers get started. Your project grows and you get an awesome community feeling.
How would we open a project under Tech Phantoms?
We open an application period yearly where anyone in our GitHub ORG can submit their project proposals, and we select projects accordly. We would try to have different kinds of projects so there will be something for everyone.
What if I create a project then I don't maintain it?
No worries, we won't ever ask any maintainer to take away their project the development will be at your pace. We will create an automatic system where if your project is actively maintained you will have better support.
Well I can't think of anything else, If you have any doubts do ask us in the discussion below, also do let us know if you like the idea and would love to see this happen.
