Description
Removed NPCs
- Darkmaster Gandling (https://db.thealphaproject.eu/index.php?action=show_creature&id=1853)
It might seem unbelievable that the final boss of Scholomance existed during 0.5.3, and indeed, he's the only NPC from the dungeon that exists in 0.5.3's data. However, his entry ID is extremely low, sandwiched between various Western Plaguelands NPCs like Araj, Thel'danis, The Husk, and Tirion. This indicates that he may have been in the Western Plaguelands like these NPCs, possibly around Andorhal or within a crypt (if an empty one exists.) It's unlikely he spawned at Caer Darrow, as according to period sources, the only things that populated it until Scholomance was developed were Guardians of Blizzard. - Giant Western Plaguelands Beasts (https://crawler.thealphaproject.eu/mnt/crawler/media/Database/TrinityCore/removed_creatures.txt)
I've decided to clump these into one section since they're virtually the same case but with different NPCs. Basically, there existed giant versions of the Western Plaguelands spiders, specifically the Venom Mist Lurkers and Plague Lurkers. This is something that Blizzard has done before, examples being the Webwood Spiders and Darkfang Spiders. They are essentially higher level counterparts of the regular spiders, located in areas of the zone made for higher level players. Interestingly, Goblin Workshop has records of these deprecated creatures, so it seems very plausible that they were around during at least the alpha before being removed. - Foulmaw Hydras (https://db.thealphaproject.eu/index.php?action=show_creature&id=1819&filter=foulmaw&sort_order=name&pos=2&max=2, https://db.thealphaproject.eu/index.php?action=show_creature&filter=foulmaw&sort_order=name&max=2&pos=1)
There are two types of hydras, Foulmaw Hydras and Elder Foulmaw Hydras, which like the Giants would've been higher level versions of the Foulmaw Hydras. Given their names and the fact that, like Gandling and the Giants, their entry IDs are in between Western Plaguelands NPCs, they likely appeared in Western Plaguelands, probably in the lake around Caer Darrow. - Scourge Creatures (https://crawler.thealphaproject.eu/mnt/crawler/media/Database/TrinityCore/removed_creatures.txt)
These are similar to the hydras, in that they are in the same ID range as Western Plaguelands NPCs and have names very fitting in theming. In these cases, they are clearly Scourge or undead. The NPCs in question are: - Scourge Necromancer
- Lost Wraith
- Hissing Ghoul
- Corpse Eater
- Skeletal Aberration
Notable NPCs in this list are the Scourge Necromancer, which uses a placeholder human model like the Eastern Plaguelands Gryphon Master, and the Hissing Ghoul, which numerous private servers running Trinity listing it as a level 26 elite, like something that would appear in Duskwood.
Removed Gameobjects
- Thorium Lode (https://db.thealphaproject.eu/index.php?action=show_go&id=324&filter=thorium&sort_order=name&pos=6&max=6)
This would later become the Small Thorium Vein, a mining node which provides Thorium. Interestingly, these veins have spawn points inside of the Western Plaguelands in release, so while the ore item may not have existed, it's very possible that these spawned in 0.5.3 as well. - Arcanite Lode (https://db.thealphaproject.eu/index.php?action=show_go&id=323&filter=arcanite&sort_order=name&pos=1&max=1)
Originally, Arcanite was intended to be a mined item, and not something that was created by Alchemists. This mining lode, directly next to the Thorium Lode in regards to its entry ID, was seemingly intended to be the lode that would provide miners with Arcanite. Interestingly, according to 0.12 patch notes, Arcanite was mined from Rich Thorium Nodes. While the ore item itself may not have existed, it's possible that these lodes populated Western Plaguelands, in the spawn points where Rich Thorium Nodes spawn in release.
Other Changes
- Grand Inquisitor Isillien (https://db.thealphaproject.eu/index.php?action=show_creature&id=1840&filter=grand+inquisitor&sort_order=name&pos=1&max=1)
In release, Isillien spawns as apart of the In Dreams questline, in a tower outside of Hearthglen. This tower is otherwise populated with generic Scarlet enemies, which it is in 0.5.3 as well. It's likely that Isillien spawned elsewhere in 0.5.3, as this questline didn't exist during this time. It's more likely he was within Hearthglen itself, likely in the Mage Tower which notably lacks any sort of rare or named NPC. - Tirion Fordring (https://db.thealphaproject.eu/index.php?action=show_creature&id=1855&filter=tirion+fordring&sort_order=name&pos=1&max=1)
Tirion is spawned, but is located where his house is. However, this section of the Eastern Plaguelands doesn't exist in 0.5.3, so it's very unlikely that he spawned there. It's more likely that he spawned in Uther's Tomb, near where Thel'danis patrols.
