package require not working in OpenROAD Tcl — how to fix or alternatives?

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m a newbie exploring Tcl and OpenROAD. I tried using the package require command to load a custom Tcl package in the OpenROAD shell, but it didn’t work as expected — I got an error related to the dir variable not being found.

I’m guessing this might be due to OpenROAD’s custom Tcl environment.
Is there a correct or recommended way to make package require work here? Or any clean workaround/alternative for modularizing code?

If it is a single file you can just source it. If you truly need TCL packages then you probably need to mess with TCL_LIBRARY or TCLLIBPATH
