Luma, the tool I've used for events, now has a very interesting community mode
It's open, you can join here https://lu.ma/community/com-mmvGpDTZoRDsxou
It's not publicly browseable unless you are a member, which depending on what you want is a downside. The events themselves can be publicly visible or just for a community.
The two downsides are:
If Luma were to add domain mapping, that would be a great reason for me to recommend it with less hesitation. This is (partially) a replacement for Meetup.com -- and I would definitely recommend it over Meetup, which I think is pretty terrible as far as community lock in and centralized structure.
I also run events through here for Fission, but don't intend to run "community" features there, as we already have a Discourse forum we run that fulfills that role.
I did a tweet storm about it here: https://twitter.com/bmann/status/1409914109022277636
