Fediverse (Mastodon +) identities seem to be interpreted as internal links?

When I create a note that happens to include fediverse usernames, like my @[email protected], it seems Trilium interprets the initial '@' to mean the text is (or wants to be) a local note link. The example in the screenshot is just the username part, so I'm not surprised it can't be used as a web link:

But with the instance name after it, it becomes a full web location. Would it be possible for Trilium to open that fediverse location like it does other web URLs?

Could there be an alternate character to signify a local child note? This could become quite confusing as the fediverse grows...
