How to use hourly slots in the 'week' calendar view?

Hello,

I've been exploring the "week" calendar view in Trilium's journal section, and I noticed that each day is neatly divided into hourly slots (e.g. 12am, 1am, 2am, etc.), which strongly suggests that events or notes might be schedulable to specific times.

However, I haven't been able to figure out how to actually make use of these time slots:

• Drag-and-drop doesn't appear to work;
• Clicking on a slot does nothing;
• I couldn't find any related settings in attributes or the Task Manager;
• Nor could I locate any documentation or discussion addressing this.

Is this a visual-only representation at the moment, or is there a feature I'm missing that allows notes/tasks to be scheduled into these hourly blocks?

Alternatively, is it possible this is a bug — that something should be draggable or interactive, but isn't working as intended?

The "Journal" calendar is slightly different in the sense that it shows the daily notes, so there's no interactivity for hours, but only days. I'll take the point of better clarifying this in the documentation in the UX.

If you wish to add hourly events, you can do so by creating your own calendar view. See the in-app help (F1): Basic Concepts and Features -> Notes -> Note List -> Calendar View. There you can drag across a time frame to add a new "Event".

@eliandoran would it be sensible to Expand the Type Day Notes with Optional Hours, Minutes for this use Case?

Not sure that would bode well with events possibly spanning from/to hours&minutes across multiple days.

That's a valid Concern, the Ability to Add a Duration is a Use Case on its own.
Then the Question arises, how to display and order them when Multiple Events are in Parallel?
These are by far not All Decisions that need to be considered.

The view suggests its "Calendar View".
Therefore, I can understand when a User (like myself) Expects a Calendar Like Experience.

For me calendar means, among other things adding Events, Daily, Hourly Weekly, etc...
With a Duration. Sorting, viewing them by affiliation to Things like "Privat", "Work", "Volunteer Training Days" etc... (This already Seems Possible, via Relations?)
On other Things I expect from a Calendar is sharing/syncing it.

Coupling it with an Individual Note, and the Possibility to still aggregate them in a Daily Note, would Probably be Bonkers.

As @eliandoran already mentioned, currently it should not be a full-fledged implementation.

Currently, for this and other Reasons I'm not committed too Trillium yet, as it seems super Flexible at first glance, but looking deeper it currently doesn't deliver yet what the UI Promises (like for Example this issue).

Trillium seems to have the Potential to make such things Possible.

Is Expanding the Calendar to Hours/Minutes a Possibility?
And how would the Way Forward be?

@Genei180 , the calendar already supports hours & minutes (including start/end time), just not in this particular case.
Please address to the user guide (F1) for more information.
This discussion is for journal/day notes which are a different concept.

That's awesome that Hourly is already is supported.

For Reference, the Section "Use-cases
Using with the Journal / calendar" describes the Problem at hand.

It's somewhat highly confusing, that the same UI does two different things based on a Tag.
Additionally, that the Default Calendar View you are greeted with when Opening Trillium for the first Time is not the Default Calendar view, with default Behavior, adds to the Confusion.
That's where my misunderstanding came from, that Hourly / Minutely Entry were not possible.

Some thoughts about it:
Is there a need to have two Implementations for it?

The Doc States for Reasons / Behavior Differences:

The calendar events are now rendered based on their dateNote attribute rather than startDate.

Could they not just render both? Why is there even a need for a own Tag?
Is it not somewhat the same as just a Start Date (with missing End Date)?
In other Word, a Point in Time to be marked?

Interactive editing such as dragging over an empty era or resizing an event is no longer possible.

Why? This would be Lovely. When I want to move a Note to a new Date, why not via drag and drop?

Clicking on the empty space on a date will automatically open that day's note or create it if it does not exist.

The Standard Way of adding a Full Day Note can still be done when clicking in the "All-day" Section.
When I want to have it in an Hour Slot, clicking there, and being taking to an "All-Day" Note is somewhat unintuitive.

Direct children of a day note will be displayed on the calendar, despite not having a date Note attribute. Children of the child notes will not be displayed.

Can't comment on this.

One Useful Thing the separation brought along for me is:
The Way Daily Notes are sorted into "Month" "Day" Folders are Preferable from a Daily Note Point of View.
While the Freedom to Sort them how every you like in the Standard Calendar view is Really Refreshing.

I'm Honestly amazed, by the Extensibility that is Possible, and the Foresight put into this Repo/Tool.
The Doc seems to be Awesome too (at least when you can read, unlike me :)), seldom saw a better Doc.
