Tell me - for how long you guyes are going to produce sofware which CAN'T be used properly?! Your client does not see local server untill it is upgraded. To upgrade it, I have to visit Git, download your rep, unzip and copy to my programms. Then I have to go and clear programms data folder, and then sync again to server.
Are you nuts?! And that's the question not only about this release, but the most of git software.
Do you consider that a man has hundreeds of software units and a dozen of pc, vm and lxc. Is it normal to go through all of them just to upgrade each month or more often?! Do you think that installing and setuping your system is the gaol of having it?! No its meaning is in using the sofware, not beeing a sysadmin all of your lifetime.
Somebody has to finish that! And make the standard for installers, upgraders and uninstallers. Not forgeting about cleaning and system transparency!

Bro, that is exactly what I talk about - you can do that, this or onother way. But it is you who does it and spend lifetime. And you have to service not one unit, but many. There it becomes a nightmare. All of it is different with separate sources, rules etc.
And I would not mention a commercial cloud descision. It is a very bad option. And a reason why we are here.
But the standards of peoples software have to grow in time. Because the amount of needed only for base has grown allready.
There has to be a way of changes. But thats not my level of knoledge how to.

Trilium is a free software. That's the cost you pay for using it. You can either stick with a desktop installation which is basically no-cost but without sync or spend the time to set up your infrastructure.

There's no way around it, that's how software works. No magic solution, unfortunately.

Well, you did not catch my meaning. Thank you for free sofware. Though I have lost my previous notes today in the process of upgrading in a sudden with no exports. But thats my fault ofcourse.
I was wrinting in general. How you said - that is software and it works this way. I deal with sotware for 40 years, I know.
But I say - something has to be changed for now already. The level has to grow.
May be I had to write it in some general discussion about Git. Ok.
But I am also not a writer. That was just an emotion.
That giant zoo has to start thinking about an end user. Not just admins.

When you install a newer version of the desktop application, there’s nothing special you need to do beyond installing and running it. Your local data persists across versions automatically. You should not delete any directories, and Git is not involved.
Updating the server is a separate matter and depends on how you originally set it up.

From what I understood earlier, are you running the server on Windows? If so, note that Trilium Server is not natively supported on Windows yet. Only a development version is available, and it’s generally difficult to use for people without a programming background and is not optimized to deliver the best performance.

The recommended way to run Trilium Server on Windows is either:

• Using Docker for Windows, or
• Running the server inside a virtual machine with a Linux distribution.

Updating Trilium, both the client and the server, shouldn't usually be a painful process, and no data loss should occur.

No. It is in LXC on PVE. Community-Script.

@fohjoy so, if I read you correctly:

• you deleted your own data, without even thinking of taking a backup first,
• in a desperate attempt to do something you knew you were not qualified for,
• it being a routine/typical software update (trilium is very standard on that regard),
• which you didn't put the effort to research and learn upfront in spite of the abundant documentation,
• nor used the several means (github discussions, chat at Matrix/XMPP) to seek for help support.

Sorry (but not sorry) if I come across as insensitive, but those insults that you fly in the direction of volunteer maintainers make a very bad job at demonstrating that there's an actual problem to solve, nor to make them sympathetic to whatever you believe you are entitled to.

Very good answear about nothing. I have already restored them from appdata folder. You never have catched (understood) the meaning. It is too much complicated for you.
The main talk was about the unconvinience of all processes. And irresponsible way of creators thinking. Let by Git.
I did not ask for --help.
I will move to another software.
