Could it be added so we can make images links?
Wrap the <img> in <a> tags.
This doesnt seem to be possible currently (version 0.102.1).

If an image functions as a link when clicked, how should we visually distinguish it from a normal image?

That should be up to the user and theme author.
I would suggest :onhover and make it lighter.
could add an ::after and overlay an icon.

displaying that it is a link should be a separate issue to wrapping images in <a> tags
