Deal with the computers in our space #426

We have one all in one PC and two computers on the bench by the windows. We also have a couple laptops in the bin below our space. There is an ASUS ROG laptop as well as another ASUS laptop. They all have problems of their own.

  • The all in one (the Dell Inspiron One 2330) is missing a disk, but should otherwise be quite functional.
  • I accidentally bricked one of the Dell Optiplex PCs, and placed blue tape on it. A new disk may be the only way to save it.
  • The other PC is functional, but the resolution looks wack on the monitor. Maybe the monitor needs recalibration.
  • The laptops under the bench, one of which is a Dell XPS M1330, are likely missing disks as well. They are old, but may potentially run Windows or Linux just fine.
  • The ASUS ROG laptop does not boot into an OS anymore. Back in the days when it booted into Linux, the battery did not charge.
  • The other ASUS laptop has the same battery problem. The solution seems to be a BIOS upgrade, but the BIOS upgrade cannot be done from Linux seemingly. So to apply the fix to the laptop would require reinstalling Windows.
  • The Lenovo and Dell Precision laptops are functional. However, we use the Dell Precision laptop as part of the team's base station. If people find that they would like to borrow one of these two laptops, it's probably a good idea to add additional user accounts at the system level to both of these laptops.
