Stoen Operator meter Elgama Gama 350 G35 - Poland

Hello,
I'm trying to read data from meter installed recently by my utility provider. Elgama Gama 350 is a three phase unit with P1 port with unknown standard.
My request to activate the port was answered with two encryption keys:

Klucz AK: bexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxda
EK: 98xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx7f

I have a ready to use cable connected to the generic ESP32-WROOM module with amsreader 2.3.9. ESP is powered from 5 V from meter, RTS is pulled up to VIN, Data is pulled up using 10k and 1k (tested both, not simultaneously).
Settings are 115200 8N1 on GPIO16, but I still only see "HAN: Unknown data received, check meter config" or "HAN: Footer checksum error".

I see no debug in configuration options, I'm using 80 cm cable. What else should I check?

This is interesting - as we have tried to find information about which standard is used on the HAN port of smart meters in Poland - but have not managed to find that information yet.

You write "P1 port with unknown standard". Your efforts so far indicate that the port follow the DSMR P1 companion standard, and this link indicates that the payload should follow "IEC 62056-21 and/or DLMS" - which means that this should work.

So it would be very interesting to see debug output from it!
Are you 100% sure you do not have a "Debugging" tile on the bottom of your config-screen?

A logic analyzer would be great.

I do not have any dedicated device that could do that. I'd rather not use some DIY ones to eliminate variables. Luckily, simple ones are dirt cheap and I will hunt one down in case I will fail with todays attempts in communicating with the meter.

Data is pulled up using 10k and 1k

Remember to pull to 3,3V (not to the incoming 5V).
I do not know that meter, but we know for a fact that 10k pullup is too weak for some meters. 3k works well on all meters so far (but 1k should work too).

Also, you'll need to invert the incoming signal - but I believe you can do that in the firmware, using this setting:

New firmware indeed has debug menu! It does not give me any valueable output though:

Fun fact, when it does not overflow, it gives something - only when I interrupt it somehow - for example with config change.

Other data dump mentioned in this thread is my guidance. Yet, I'm no trusting that easily and there are two possible causes:

1. It is encrypted in some weird way
2. Baud is different, which I am currently investigating with Arduino UNO as a logic analyzer, while proper logic analyzer is ordered and will be delivered... soon :)

EGM5G35 probably means ElGaMa G35, that may be a clue baud i in the ballpark.

I don't know what is your sampling rate on that image, but that rather look like 19200.

But to sample correctly the 115200, you need at least 250kHz sampling rate, if I am not mistaken.

All P1 meters we have seen are 115 200 baud / 8N1, you can assume that is the correct setting.

My request to activate the port was answered with two encryption keys:

In meter config, tick "Meter is encrypted" and paste the EK key in the first field and AK key in the second.

I already understand the type of encryption used, it is just the encapsulation method that I have not seen before. It is a simple matter to make the code recognize this encapsulation and it will decrypt the data. I will implement and run some tests in the near future.

And I would assume that the meter is sending multiple kind of telegrams with different periodicity. Some containing the information what @gskjold showed, and others with 1 to 15 minutes periodicity some other information, like average load, and line voltage.

But this is just a guess, you should log the telegrams for at least 2 hours to see what other messages are sent with different periodicity.

I have monitoring working for 17 hours, I enabled MQTT to Home Assistant couple hours ago and I see no voltages.

If anyone interested, I kindly asked the vedor - Elgama - and they replied to my query on P1 port standards/etc, and wrote that it is compliant with DSMR 5.0.2 P1.
So if you see that only a field or two is received in datagrams - I suggest to contact the vendor. 😄

That is the information we hoped to see - that Polish P1 meters are compliant with the Dutch "P1 Companion" standard. This means that our Pow-P1 reader can be used on such meters also in Poland.

@Mhrok thanks for the clarification. I wonder if anyone has tried to talk to Stoen to have them change the configuration to include these parameters. I'm afraid they are purposely disabled to avoid complaints due to photovoltaic installations.

For starters, I just sent an email with question(s) to Elgama (vendor), on who controls/decides which registry is published.
Stoen and their customer service' agents may not know this. Even for the keys they rely on supplier. (I wonder if this is the vendor or not).

@mstuczko, just my 5 cents on this subject.

• Changes of the firmware likely needs recertification.
• Enabling other outputs on the P1 likely is just a setting, like which IP address the meter sends data or what periodicity etc.
• Be cautious how far you are trying to pursue this. This is still Poland with the mentality of assuming everybody is committing a crime who touches a meter (or certified device), and you are a criminal until you can prove it otherwise. (read, Dragon Sector)
• There is a trend which I cannot explain yet, but some meters are installed without a local communication port in Tauron, despite Tauron is/was the leader with AMIPLUS on letting users to access meter reading locally. It suggests that the law has some excuse to not provide local access to the meters even tendered/purchased after the date of the remote metering law's date.
• ENEA does not allows local access to their meters, they are promising a website to have access to meter data for years. They told this back in 2023, the last information was that this site should be by the end of Q1 2025. They are riding on the deadline of 2031 for adapting the meters. So, again, something allows these non-realtime solutions. The whole user access can be reverted if they think that it would hurt their interest.
