Hello. I am a GIS application developer.

Thanks to developing this great repository.

I saw a notice sentence for supporting Android & iOS.

"The package architecture should in principle be able to support Android and iOS architectures in the future but this has not been implemented. Yet."

I am interested in contribution for this repository, specifically supporting Android & iOS.

please tell me where I can start what I need to do. I am just starting reading this repo code.

Thanks for the nice words.

I always intended to support at least Android - to support Quest.

However, it turned out to be more complicated than that.

On any platform, you need a complete set of binaries for GDAL and all of its dependencies - of which there are a lot. This package uses Conda environment management on the supported platforms to do the heavy lifting.

Conda does support ARM environments, so I thought it was possible.

However, Conda does not support cross compiling and that is how Unity builds for Android and IOS. That is also why this package has a problem with Unity Cloud Build for Linux - they use Macos and cross compile for Linux but Conda just loads the Mac binaries and they fail! I have not found a way around this!

In theory, you could create complete binary builds for Android and IOS and add them to the package - but that is not a maintenance load I am willing to take on and since it needs to be all of the GDAL dependencies that is a lot of binaries!

I'm working on desktop version of a GIS application. after finishing desktop version. I'll see what I can do for supporting android and IOS.

actually supporting Android is upper priority than IOS to support Quest for my application. same for me.

If you don't mind, I am opening this issue until this problem fixed.
