Precursors to view_component

I've just been told about mountain_view, which seems to have been trying to achieve a similar goal to ViewComponent. cells and @camertron's rux are also in this space, but I wasn't aware of mountain_view yet. Looks like components have been desired by Rails devs for a good while! Does anyone know of other precursors to view_component?

I suppose we could, even if it doesn't directly relate to ViewComponent history — it'd be another little addendum to say the Rails community has been thinking about this for a while from different angles.

Just hopping in here to say that Rux is built on top of view_component, i.e. it's not a component implementation on its own.
