Authorization request requires access to all repos ?

Hello, i am just using this app for the very first time. I just noticed that in the initial setup, when it prompts to authorize git sync, it requests access to all the repos in my account. Is this normal/intended ? I thought i will have to provide access to only that specific repo which i intend to sync on my android device

The app will absolutely not interact with any repository that you don't specifically select, but the permission situation is on purpose at the moment and is just to prevent having to ask every time you might want to use a new repository. Purely a convenience thing.

I do understand that words only mean so much and that convenience isn't a great reason for what users would see as a security issue.

I'm still working on the open sourcing of the new codebase and I was imagining that once that's done, the convenience would make more sense.

For the record, this is definitely a change that could be made, but I'm always trying to prioritise time vs impact and this has relatively low impact compared to the time it might take (which isn't super long but also isn't 0). If more people chime in here saying it's a more major concern, I can certainly put some time into it.

Oh yes, you are right. Its indeed git rm --cached {filepath} that i need. With the CLI, we can manually untrack a file and commit the change, but in the GitSync app this would require a dedicated option. It would make sense to have such an option present alongside .gitignore. To keep it simple, just having a simple button/option which reads - Untrack all .gitingore files should be sufficient. Can also make it to automatically commit this change if you feel its okey else user can push the commit manually.

Oh yeah, I have an update in the works to generally add more git client features, since the app is quite sync focussed at the moment.

I was going to make it so that editing gitignore would prompt you to unstage all anyways, so a button definitely makes sense there! Appreciate your ideas :)

P.S. That update is going to take ages

Sounds good, Currently i have just added the file to .git/info/exclude which worked just fine. Now that i think about it, it kinda makes more sense to use this option in my case instead of gitignore. I can only ignore that file on my android device with gitsync where git plugin is not required and ideally let git track the .obsidian/community-plugins.json file on desktop

Oh, if you are using it for the obsidian-git plugin, I would just use the toggle in the plugin settings.

To clarify

• Remove all the relevant bits from gitignore and git/info/exclude
• Sync all your plugins on all your devices as normal
• For any devices using GitSync, where you want obsidian-git disabled
  • Open obsidian-git plugin settings
  • Scroll to the bottom
  • Toggle Disable on this device
  • Profit?

That's for the heads up, this is an even better solution:)
I wasn't aware such an option existed within the git plugin xd as i pretty much use it at default settings + auto pull on startup
