[BUG] Player crashes whenever a downloaded book is played

Description of the Issue
Whenever I download a book and then try to play it, the android app crashes. Streaming is no problem

Steps to Reproduce
Outline the steps needed to reproduce this issue:

1. Download book and wait for download to finish
2. Press play and app crashes

Expected Behavior
I'd expect the audiobook to play

Observed Behavior
App crashes when the play button is pressed. No error messages at all.

Device and Platform Details

• Device Type: Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
• Operating System: Android 16
• App Version: 1.8.4

Did you make sure the download was uninterrupted (/uninstalling and reinstall while the app is in foreground until finished)

Also can you please tell the container and codex the file is in?

I did make sure the app was in the foreground for the whole download.

I'm not sure what you mean by container and codex?

An audio file has a container (e.g. M4B) and a codec (e.g. aac)

If your device cannot play the file natively, it won't play when downloaded. So could you please share that information

Is there anything else I can do to help sorting this out? It's absolutely destroying my mobile phone data allowance

Hey sorry,

not really. I cannot reproduce the error and the format should be supported by any somewhat new device, which yours definitely is.
I can, at that point, just recommend trying another app. The download feature in my app is not that well integrated anyway and I stopped working on the new client (which would probably work better) due to the flooding of ABS clients

Fair enough mate. Works fine on Listen (although that one is a bit buggy which is why I gave Buchable a try). I'll have a look at the other ones. I wish you the best
