Outreach dashboard not updating stats for wikisource

What is happening?

the dashboard i created doesn't show any activity in //home// tab.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. i created a course on outreach dashboard to track pawikisource activity - https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Punjabi_Wikimedians/Seaba_School_Wiki_Activities/home
2. it is showing recent wikisource changes in the //Activity// tab but not updating in the //Home// tab.

it should show the number of changes in those pages in //Home// tab

Hello! I took a quick look at your program and the problem you mentioned.

It seems that the only tracked namespace for your program is pa.wikirsource.org - Page (what we internally call pa.wikisource.org-namespace-104). So in your Home tab you'll only see data that we associate to revisions in that particular namespace (and it seems there were no revisions in "page" namespace).

On the other hand, the "Recent Activity" tab retrieves all recent revisions made by your students, including those that don't belong to a tracked namespace. In fact, it seems that the revisions appearing in that tab are from namespace id 250.

Does that make sense to you? I think that explain the discrepancy between home tab and recent activity.

That said, I have some doubts about those revisions in namespace with id 250, because according to this doc, 250 could be associated with Page namespace. However, it looks like we don't currently support 250 as the Page namespace id for wikisource.

Maybe this is something we can work on in the future, depending on the priority.

Interesting! I was guessing that namespaces changed at some point since we implemented Page support for namespace 104, but it looks like it's been 250 for quite a while, so maybe this was just a mistake. I can't tell from the commit history where we got 104 from.

I may be confused about this, but I found different namespace IDs related to "Page" namespace, depending on the language. For example:

• For en.wikisource, page namespace seems to be 104. Example
• For es.wikisource, page namespace seems to be 102. Example
• For pa.wikisource, page namespace seems to be 250. Example

@gabina @ragesoss I took a look at this further.

I noticed that the ID of the Page: namespace is not static across all Wikisource projects. This is why we see IDs like 102 (es.wikisource), 104 (en.wikisource), and 250 (pa.wikisource). The specific ID depends entirely on that wiki's history and its specific MediaWiki configuration (specifically the ProofreadPage extension settings).

The discrepancy stems from pages that support the ProofreadPage extension, as detailed in the documentation.
Currently, we are hardcoding a single value for PAGE in our Namespaces module and PROJECTS_NAMESPACES list. This is likely why the activity for pa.wikisource.org (which uses 250) is not being tracked correctly in this case.

I am thinking that dynamically determining the correct namespace ID for "Page" by querying the specific wiki's API configuration when a course or wiki is first added to the dashboard would be a better solution. This might require significant refactoring, but it seems necessary for cross-wiki compatibility

Hi @ragesoss, I investigated this issue thoroughly. I see the hardcoded values of the namespaces in the PROJECTS_NAMESPACES (wiki.rb), as I also see in the prior discussions. For this particular issue, we can add "250" in the list, and it would fix this issue. But for the future cases, we would require a dynamic approach.
I would like to work on this, so would you like me to add 250, or follow up with the dynamic approach?
