OK, let's get started with the WordPress Community news.
WordPress Community
🟢 WordPress Core news
WordPress 6.7 RC 1 is ready for download and testing!
We are preparing the new WordPress 6.7 post. You can help with the discussion. We're just days away from the release of WordPress 6.7, so it would be great to get some hands on deck these days.
You also have everything much more detailed in the Server Environment section of the handbook.
🟢 Create connections between Performance Team and Hosts
@ DD32 created the new ##core-performance-hosting channel which is aimed to increase the cooperation between the Core Performance team and our hosting team. The channel is already pretty active so thank you all for the work!
🟢 WordPress Hosting Team Reps
It is this season of the year again where we start to think about 2025 and a big part of this will be about who represents the Hosting Team. In the WordPress open-source project, each team has on average one or two representatives, abbreviated as Reps. The Team Rep represents the team to the wider Make project, and the project to the Hosting Team. Right now this Team is represented by Javier and Lucas.
The reason we have multiple Team Reps is that one can take responsibility for the duties during the first half of the term while the other provides backup, and that in the 2nd half of the term, the backup rep will take the primary responsibility. This means about 3 months learning the ropes, and about 3 months as the primary team rep.
It’s not called “team lead” for a reason. It’s an administrative role. While people elected as team reps will generally come from the pool of folks that people think of as experienced leaders, the Team Rep role is designed to change hands regularly. As a Team Rep, you’re accountable to “get things done” within the team and aggregate ideas into doable actions.
This role has a time commitment attached to it. Not a huge amount, it’s at least three hours a week. Here are the main tasks:
Post the agenda, host the chats, and summarize them.
Keeping an eye on the moving parts of the team to be able to report for quarterly updates.
Work closely with Table leads for Contributor Days.
The way to get the new Hosting Team Reps into the game will look like this:
Early November we're going to open the Call for Nominees. Example from 2024. This call for Nominees will be open for two weeks.
After the two weeks we're going to reach out to the nominated people and check-in if they are open to run for the position.
Once confirmed we're opening up the voting polls (through Crowdsignal) for people to vote for the Team Representatives.
Everyone is welcomed to nominate existing team members and/or themselves. Our aim is to have a the new Hosting Team Reps elected by early December and start the hand over process.
🟩 Open Floor
Ok, if nothing else, let's move on to the Open Floor. You are welcome to bring any topic up for discussion at this time.

Closing
As a reminder for the next meetings / weeks, here are the dates and times (in UTC). DST is approaching, but remember that this team does not change the times of the meetings as they are always in universal time (which every year changing it was a mess).
🟩 Meeting Times
2024-10-30 0900 UTC
2024-11-06 1800 UTC
Be aware of Daylight Saving Times. We agreed to keep our meetings to the UTC times so there might be a shift in the upcoming days for you.
Goodbye
That wraps up today's meeting. Please keep in mind, our discussions can continue in the #hosting Slack channel or on Make/Hosting anytime.
I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week! [/meeting]
