Is SIXEL that fast?

I ask because I wrote my OWN compositor (neither X NOR Wayland) using SDL2 with the kmsdrm driver (using the kernel interfaces and Mesa directly), and so the only use case for this would be when you have a SSH terminal and have never heard of just forwarding X11.

@Kreijstal Could you please specify the use cases for this? So why should this be done?

I think one use case might be when you're on a system like Windows that doesn't have an X server by default, but does have a terminal with sixel capabilities. With this feature you would assumedly be able to access X clients on a remote system without having to install an X server locally (which often isn't an option in business environments).

Does that make sense? Or have I misunderstood how it works?
