Why XLibre and not Xenocara? #180

"The goal of Xenocara is to provide a framework to host local modifications and to automate the build of the modular X.Org components, including 3rd party packages and some software maintained by OpenBSD developers. It is not a fork. We are tracking X.Org modifications and try to push back our changes whenever they are good for upstreams too." Not a fork. |

So maybe Xenocara will switch to X11Libre as its upstream one day, in case X11Libre becomes to Xorg what LibreOffice became to OpenOffice. |

Xenocara has a lot of OpenBSD specific code, but it was ported to GNU/Linux a while back, but it saw little use. It would be beneficial to get Xenocara developers on board with x11libre to develop a common codebase. Edit: It would be very beneficial to bring in xenocara developers as I have seen very little evidence wayland will be supported in the BSDs very well. I know FreeBSD "says" they support it, but when I've tried to use it, wayland just won't work. |

X11 was built with infinite extendability in mind. One thing the FreeDesktops developers (I vehemently refuse to call them xorg developers in any regards now) don't want to admit. This is why we have extension after extension. While older code models exist, newer extensions to the base add functionality. And yes, many hands make light work. If we could get people to make Intel, AMD, and Nvidia see this project as worthwhile, we could gain even more traction. We have a driver "modesetting" that can work with any hardware via the egl/glamor layer, we have the libinput driver, all we need is the clean up, and extensions made to allow HDR10 coloring and anything else missing. |

xenocara should start tracking x11libre |

I think the best way to do it is to simply out-develop Xorg. But ideally without breaking ABIs, and without breaking proprietary drivers like those from Nvidia. |

We kinda already have by allowing patches in to fix things that are broken already. FreeDesktops has shown they're not just incapable of developing X but also unwilling. |

Moving this to X11Libre Q A · Discussions · GitHub due to it being more of a question than a feature request. |

Xenocara is an Xorg fork maintained by the OpenBSD team. Why start another project instead of consolidating efforts into a shared one?
