Ps. Once doing so we could create discussion category forms - GitHub Docs like the ones we are using for New Feature Requests. |

2x "Sounds good" is very good. I'll go for it in Add more structure to the "Ideas" discussions · Issue #224 · X11Libre/misc. |

Describe the idea
At the moment all the ideas are in one place, the X11Libre Ideas · Discussions · GitHub.
For example there is an RFC of @metux Incorporating drivers into Xserver tree · X11Libre · Discussion #207 and another idea of @morr0ne Consider Rust migration for X11 modernization? · X11Libre · Discussion #27. Both are in the same category but have different scopes, weights and probabilties of being implemented.
The discussion on the Rust migration is ongoing and gets pushed ahead of other ideas, but more likely to happen "someday" if at all. The "Incorporating drivers" idea gets pushed down by the Rust one but is way more likely to be worked on in the next time. So there is a conflict.
The solution: We should split the one "Ideas" category in at least these ones:
Description (Draft): New Ideas go here (and stay there for 3 weeks or so)
Description (Draft): Comment on ideas of the core team
Description (Draft): Help out to refine ideas for implementation
Description (Draft): Good ideas saved for later
All categories should have a pinned post like in X11Libre Xlibre On Other Distributions · Discussions · GitHub (but shorter) describing the category and welcoming anybody who is interested to contribute. Also it should be laid out in which way to contribute best.
It should be done because
The overwhelming number of ideas received so far has been very valuable and the submission of ideas and joint discussions should continue to be encouraged in the spirit of our open culture. It is very good to give both the core team and the contributors a fair chance to have a say in the course of the project.
Having (sub-) categories in the "Ideas" discussions section was good to give better guidance to everyone looking for and after the ideas and what to focus on when commenting. E.g. Request for comments (RFCs) simply have a different scope than for example "good or maybe not so good for the future" ideas.
What are the alternatives?
Maintain the status quo and let ideas go unnoticed.
