Feel free to ask some potential sponsors, if you know one. |

When you get the time you might set up a way for individuals to contribute. |

It's not much but I went ahead and created a mirror repo under my company's Git since I don't trust Github. https://git.worlio.com/Canithesis_Interactive/xlibre EDIT: moved to here: https://git.worlio.com/X11Libre |

But will someone want to support thing called "libre"? "X12" have a better chance, but I don't think that few fixes can offer something great enough. |

Well Enrico can found a non for profit orga and take donations , then there a thing with producing tshirts on demand with X11Libre logo, then there companies like my (software vendor independent IT consultants) , so i hope the funding will happen everything is new for Enrico, but i hope he know what he doing. |

This seems like a good Linux Mint project too. Do they do sponsorships? |

Great to see X11 moving forward! Since I don't really know C and still want to support the project, I'd be happy to "donate" some compute ressources for e.g. CI/CD pipelines. I have a six node k8s cluster (3 Control Planes, each with 4C, 8G RAM; 3 Worker, each with 20C, 64 GB RAM and 3 Tib of NVMe Storage) running as my homelab at a german server hoster |

I want to donate right now! Just for this man having the guts to do it! I am personally a fan of Cinnamon and although Cinnamon right now has Wayland support, there are still many features that are missing. The fact that there seems to have been a generous and accelerated push to kill off Xorg, first by blocking almost all patches, fixes, etc, then claiming that because there has not been development so let's abandon it, is clearly and without a doubt a classic political tool of "create a cause, then run against it's effects". I patiently awaiting someone to do a side by side comparison of Xlibre and Wayland on gaming, I have a funny feeling there is not much difference, and I am not a gamer!!! I also find it shockingly interesting that no sooner does WSL2 release, that Xorg starts to cut off it's own legs, because WSL2 handles X11 apps through Wayland. |

I'm so glad to see this project. It's been a long time coming, and I'm sure that reinventing the wheel here is prudent since corperate interests have basically redered x11 og and wayland absolutely useless. I'm going to spread the word. I just hope that the community moves this project to Rust so that we can make it more safe in the process. |

Great :) Might also be nice having an automated mirroring on various different platforms. |

A Xlibre t-shirt would be nice. And then let's all go to some Redhat/IBM event and see what happens ;-) |

Oh, great !
Perhaps the same one, f.d.o is running on ? They're half an car-hour away from me, btw. |

Thanks, thats great :)
The memory-leaky language ? ;-) Seriously: I actually had some thought experiments on that. But mixing C and rust code isn't entirely easy, and also adds hard dependency on a foreign toolchain. See eg. many LKML threads on what the practical problems are. If some separate programs coming up (nothing linked into the Xserver), then perhaps it might be a good choice. Let's see what the future has for us. Or perhaps golang ? I've already thought about rewriting the testing-ground tool it in. Of course a vital precondition is that it's working stable on all the target platforms. |

I'm using Gitlab CI at work, so I have some experience with it :)
Nice, I've rented some VPS at Netcup, since they are quite cheap |

no i will like to not have corporate sponsorship as it can cause company to control the project for profit. |

It would be really funny if we could get Elon to bankroll this project. |

Thank you for your contributions! We currently restructured the "Ideas" discussions and accordingly this discussion will be moved to the X11Libre 4 Good Ideas For Later category to have a look at it later. |

Given the anti-sponsorship displayed by the freedesktop.org / x.org funders, shall we create a sponsorship plan to ensure the independence and continuing support of this effort, in an open fashion? Specifically, I would like to help fund seeking EU sponsorship of this repository, and find funding for developers who contribute to the public good.
