Porting XLibre to FreeBSD

An effort for porting X11libre to FreeBSD.

After cloning, you can use the OVERLAY option in the /etc/make.conf to overlay this folder to your main tree. Use a jail for testing, so that your packages won't get messed up.

I used a link of the the pic on the forums, the thread it was on got deleted, and it took down the pic here too.
I thought that GitHub would store the contents of the links locally, but it seams like they call back each time.

Cool stuff. Recently I went back to using FreeBSD and it feels great to be on proper operating system again. God willing I will have time to give this a try.

I wouldn't say that what you did was dumb. Switching from X.Org Server to XLibre is a valid scenario. I think it just needs a little more refinement, so at the moment a clean install should give you a working XLibre.

I mean it's new port of new fork, not many people tested it on FreeBSD, and trying to just install it on top of X.Org and expecting it to just work does not make any sense but I wanted to try it anyway. On top of that you have VM doing who knows what with the input, so I can't even debug anything. Clean install would be better test case anyway.

On GhostBSD I literally just did what the README says, then killed the running Xorg, and was logged into a XLibre session.

I tried it in VM and I messed something up. I think I need clean install, it won't work if you already have xorg with xfce installed - or perhaps it's a VM problem. Long story short, I got mouse, I got LightDM so rendering worked, but I had no keyboard input so I couldn't even fix config. Next time I'll try to just install base system, then XLibre and then we'll go from there. My time is very limited unfortunately.

Btw, yes, what I did was dumb, I know it was dumb and I know I should expect things not to work. I'm dumb.

If you can please provide any of these:

• The hypervisor used.
• The drivers installed.
• Versions of above.
• The XLibre log files.

You can use a TTY for starting XLibre (With startx) so that you would still have access to a terminal if your drivers fail.

@b-aaz VirtualBox 7.1.10, base install of FreeBSD 14.3 with X.Org, LightDM and Xfce. VM is dead and deleted. That's why I'll try next time at least without LightDM configured to autostart since I couldn't get back to console without keyboard input. I hate VirtualBox, there's always something with this piece of junk that doesn't work and with each update they make it worse. FreeBSD has problems in VirtualBox with input anyway, so I don't know what will happen next. I wouldn't be surprised if it would work flawlessly in something else.
