Is xf86vidmode extension still needed ?

Hello everybody,

I'd like to know whether the old xf86vidmode extension is still practically needed out there in the field.
Theoretically, it should be superseded by xrandr - but still like to have your feedback on whether my assumption is correct.

If nobody really needs it anymore (and can't use xrandr), I'm thinking of deprecating (and later dropping) it.
