GDI+ is related to the windows graphics subsystem. I assume you are using Mono and are probably missing some GDI dependencies.
This is not related to AML, but to the runtime environment, so I am moving this to discussions.

I am not aware of using Mono, except it is automatically used by Steam/Proton if run on a Linux machine.

Steps I took today to troubleshoot:

• Change Proton version to Experimental
• Install GDI library:
  sudo apt install -y libgdiplus
• Install missing GDI dependencies:
  sudo apt-get install libgif-dev autoconf libtool automake build-essential gettext libglib2.0-dev libcairo2-dev libtiff-dev libexif-dev
• There was a Steam update for the Linux Runtime Environment as well as a small XCOM 2 update (not sure if either of those fixed anything)

After installing the missing GDI dependencies, I am now able to successfully launch and play the game. The launcher still throws the same error if I keep hovering the mouse over the "Run"-button. Clicking the "Run"-button fast enough does not result in an error.
