fs freeze with NetBSD

I installed the qemu-guest-agent on NetBSD and started it via:

gw-priv /etc/rc.d > /usr/pkg/bin/qemu-ga -v -m isa-serial -p /dev/tty00 -r -t /var/run -f /tmp/qemu-ga.pid
1749538323.304025: debug: Guest agent version 9.2.2 started

no warning no errors.

I tried to backup the VM via:

virtnbdbackup -d gw-priv -l auto -o /tmp/kvm/ --compress 
...
WARNING fs fs - freeze [main]:  argument unsupported: QEMU guest agent is not configured

I'm uncertain what additional config steps I have to make. The host is Ubuntu 25.04.

try via

virsh domfsfreeze ..
virsh domfsthaw ..

to see if this works at all.

this looks to me as if the qemu guest agent doesnt correctly support fsfreeze operation for netbsd filesystem used (FFSv2),
at least the "unsupported argument" error shown smells like it.

Looks like your are right:

virsh domfsfreeze gw-priv
error: Unable to freeze filesystems
error: argument unsupported: QEMU guest agent is not configured

I also tried to list all allowed rpcs, but this doesn't work either. Ok, no 'Application consistent backups', are there any other implications?

not that i know of. Im no NetBSD user.
