Strangely enough, right now, I can download my youtube example and RetiredSithLord's example (links above) and some others (possibly all?). I haven't changed/installed anything, and also VDH and Fiefox version numbers are the same as some hours ago.
For me, It seems to be magic.

I still can't download here, does video downloadhelper leaves any log file behind so I can copy/paste here? or any command that I can use on the browser's console to check for details about the error?

Unfortunately, it was only a short weekend pleasure. New situation: youtube videos are detected but after a click on the (coloured) icon there is no download button, only the list of recently downloaded videos.

Another new sitiuation: There is a download button but the thumbnail picture shows the video that was downloaded last- and this cannot be downloaded again : "Sadly we failed at downloading that specific media". Still VDH 9.3.7.2 from 25/04/25.
I give up reporting strange effects and will wait for a general solution.

I don't know why, but youtube downloads started to work fine now. I haven't changed anything.

It sometimes downloads the incorrect audio, like Spanish on an English video. Is that an expected bug? Any workaround?

I do not work for VDH. I'm just another user. I can't fix anything any more than you can. If you refuse to apply your brain to the acquisition of new skills & knowledge, then you will simply have to wait until this problem is corrected in VDH. For the moment, it is still a bug in the product. I have offered a way for you to get the content you want right now. If you're not willing to apply yourself to that, then you will not get the content you want until some future date that has not been specified. The choice is yours between laziness & industriousness.

You also need to face a reality. This is a product that is developed by one person. One. Singular. Only. Lonely. And I am not sure to what extent VDH is his priority. You paid for a license. So did I. So did many others who post here. Throwing a temper tantrum is not going to speed up the availability of a solution. You have an alternative, a temporary workaround, a stopgap that you could avail yourself of for the time being until a proper solution is provided. If you are going to be lazy about things, don't complain.

You paid a very small amount for a very good application which downloads many videos correctly. I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect perfection in the circumstances. The circumstances are that internet technology is constantly changing and some of those changes are deliberate attempts by Google to prevent tools like VDH from working and to withhold technical information from their developers. I don't think nine months is a particularly long time for us to be patient with a sole developer facing both technical innovation and constant sabotage.

I updated to the NEW Firefox version 9.3.7.2, and it doesnt appear to detect youtube videos. I reset Firefox closing opening several times, and the same result.

I also RESTARTED windows 11 and then opened back up Firefox with the new VDH update 9.3.7.2 and it still does NOT detect youtube videos.

I just restarted my laptop with windows 11 several times since that POST 2 days ago... I attempted to use Firefox again with the VDH updated 9.3.7.2, grabbing the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNRIV2qtGWU and it was ### SUCCESSFUL. Youtube video was DETECTED and download was successful.

ALL WORKING NOW with CURRENT update version 9.3.7.2 with FIREFOX

Join the long line. Many people have been begging for release notes for years. We just never get them. Well, hardly ever. We might get some when VDH 10 is released. For the present, you, we all, are out of luck.

Oh yeah. I forgot about those. But you have to agree that even the notes that are there are pretty perfunctory. That's probably why I forgot about them. Compare that with, just as an example, this:

Click the link for the change log there. Those are release notes. VDH has always been woefully inadequate in this department.

This answer might be a bit late. GitHub sends an E-mail when you post a comment. But when you delete the comment, as it appears you did here, GitHub doesn't send an E-mail. Similarly, if you post a comment & then edit it, the E-mail sent out by GitHub is only for the original post, not the changes you make by editing. It is always safest to come to the discussion page on GitHub in your browser. You should not totally rely on the automatic E-mails GitHub sends you. So this is an answer to a post that is no longer here, but that addresses the question you deleted. It was a valid question & the answer might benefit others.

When you go to the Mozilla extensions repository to download a new general availability version of VDH, it does not have an Install button, only a Remove button. That is totally brain dead. They can't honestly expect you to remove an extension -- which means all the settings customizations you may have made to it -- before you install the new one. That is totally unnecessary. I posted an explanation, with screenshots, of how to download the XPI file of the beta of VDH. The technique in that explanation also works on the Mozilla extensions repository. That means you can get the XPI file & just install the general availability version WITHOUT first removing your existing VDH. The explanation is here:

Thank you! In fact, I DID remove and re-install VDH and it is there now with version 9.3.7.2. It is licensed and detects youtube videos, but downloads don't work. I tried some, but the reaction is always "Sadly we failed at downloading that specific media" - even for videos I could download 2 or 3 weeks ago.

I'm running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit version 24H2 build 26100.3775, Firefox 137.0.2 64-bit, licensed VDH 9.3.7.0 beta (identical to 9.3.7.2 general availability), CoApp 2.0.20.

I had no problem downloading this:

Usually, when a user has persistent inexplicable failures like you're describing, it's because your antivirus is quarantining the CoApp. You need to identify to your antivirus that the CoApp is safe. You do this by finding the directory in which the CoApp is installed. That directory is shown on the first page of VDH More settings. Look in that directory & tell your antivirus that all the .exe files in that directory are safe. I am running the Windows Defender antivirus that came built into my Windows 11 & I have not had to do this. But other folks have had to do this with other antivirus programs. In addition, you need to tell your firewall to allow those same .exe files through. There is a comment in the Wiki about antivirus. You'd do well to read that.
