memberspot video download not possible

There are tutorials on https://www.memberspot.de that show the plugin for download but when I try to download it I get an error message that this media cannot be downloaded. I also use Jdownloader2 and it can download the video but the audio track is missing.

It's a problem that the dev is looking into, it fails because the download needs a site referer coded into it. See #1882

I haven't followed your investigation of this referrer issue but I trust you're right about it. On the other hand, I took my usual Plan B approach. First I ran the URL of the HLS master manifest provided by the original poster through ffprobe. That gave me this:

This looks entirely unremarkable. There's 4 Programs here. The same audio Stream #0:0 appears in all 4 Programs. It contains the notation (de) which leads me to believe the audio track is German. There are 4 video Streams of various resolutions. I chose the one with the highest resolution, which happens to be 1440x1080. It has the notation (en) which would normally indicate English. But a video track has no language. It's the video track. A language would be the concern of the audio track, which in this case is German. I find it a bit curious that the video Stream has a language identifier. In any case, this is a perfectly ordinary manifest. There's 4 Programs, each one consisting of an audio Stream & a video Stream. No Timed_ID3 data, no multiple audio tracks, no DASH content, just an ordinary HLS MP4. It looked to me like a perfect candidate for downloading with ffmpeg, which I did:

The resulting file played fine in VLC. I only skimmed it, sampling it at intervals, to make sure it was there. It was, all the way to the final 15:51 time index. It's no surprise that the guy in the video was speaking German.

I don't pretend to understand what this referrer business is all about. But if you really want to download this video now, without waiting for @paulrouget Paul to get around to dealing with VDH's problems, you can do it quite easily. I can't extrapolate these results to other cases. But I would be tempted to at least try Plan B on them as well.

I have one somewhat extraneous observation on the ffprobe output. You'll notice a few occurrences of this:

I don't know what that's all about. The appearance of the word "dash" in there is a bit misleading. This is most assuredly an HLS master manifest, not a DASH master manifest. The file name ends in m3u8, not mpd. But file names can be anything at all. The important thing is the content of the file. In this case, that content indeed is consistent with the m3u8 file extension; it is an HLS master manifest.

I decided to read #1882. I'm no further ahead in my understanding. The one user came in there & made a confident claim about a header --referrer. I assume that's some kind of HTML thing. I found this information:

That seems to be relevant. If it is, the thing does not have a prefix of --. Maybe the -- appears when the link is traversed from the referring page to the target page. That's all internal workings of a web site. I'm still no closer to understanding what the issue is. My ffmpeg test doesn't have anything in it to identify a referrer. I'm not going to say definitively that referrer is a bit of a red herring. Perhaps it's an issue on a site where you need to log in to get at the content, like the site mentioned in #1882. The site in our discussion here is not behind a user login. I downloaded the video here without problems using ffmpeg. Ffmpeg is the download engine inside VDH. The referrer might be an issue in that other discussion. I'm skeptical it's an issue here. Moreover, I'm skeptical it's even an issue in #1882. I would need to be able to apply Plan B over there, but I would need a login so that's not going to happen. It might be helpful if the authorized user in #1882 could apply Plan B. Plan B uses ffmpeg without the aid of front-ends like VDH & yt-dlp. Stripping away the extra layer might be a significant thing to do. It certainly works fine here. Maybe it would work in #1882 if you can get the authorized user over there to try it.

This one appears to be a rare exception , because it looked like all the other examples I've seen. If I copy the hls link and paste in a
new tab page there is detection. But it fails upon starting download. I thought it needed the referer and looking at the log showed
you didn't do that. It was just luck you tried the only example that didn't need it.

Have you tried the public example over in #1882 , you will find that it fails in ffmpeg unless a referer is used.
I did not understand it early on, you can see that I was failing on it. Then another user said that it checks for a referer and if there isn't the server responds with a 403 error.

I hadn't tried it but I did just now. I ran ffprobe on one of the videos on that page. I had to click the PLAY button on the video before it would drop an HLS master manifest in the Network Monitor. Using my usual ffprobe just got me a 403 Forbidden error. So I added -referer (note how that is misspelled, but that's how ffprobe accepts it) as an input parameter, not a global parameter, to the command & presto:

I assume actually trying to download this with ffmpeg would work. I didn't bother. This is enough to convince me. So it seems some sites need this referer (misspelled) parameter. I wonder what volume of web content needs this. It may be such a low percentage that it might not be worth the trouble to add the feature to VDH. I also wonder if there's a way for a program (VDH) to probe the content to determine whether a referer is required, and if it is, what value to supply. Will that value always be the name of the web site? I don't know enough to say.
