I recently had to archive around 100 YouTube videos and noticed that after a while, they would all start failing to download. I speculate that they are throttling (or, perhaps in this case, outright blocking) the request somehow based on IP.

Switching over to a VPN caused the downloads to immediately start working again (so long as I refreshed the page, or accessed the video fresh while on the new IP), but even that would get blocked after a while, and I'd have to wait a few hours before trying again.

Not sure if this info is helpful but it might explain the influx of people thinking VDH is broken on YouTube
