I'm on the beta channel. I did what I always do when I open Firefox: tools->Extensions & Themes clicked the gear icon and chose 'check for updates'. No update was found???

I do not work for VDH. I am just another user. Also, please read #2214.

At the moment, the general availability version of VDH for Firefox is newer than the beta version. You need to install the general availability version. I discuss this further in #2185.

In addition, there remains an issue with YouTube videos that include multiple language dubs. I posted something on this subject in French just yesterday in #2125. (If you don't read French, copy/paste the French text into Google Translate.) It is an example of something I discuss in more detail in #1707. The French text shows how you determine whether something has multiple language dubs. Not everything on YouTube has multiple language dubs, so you need to determine whether you are looking at such an example before you run off trying the workaround in #1707. For the moment, you have to take matters into your own hands -- POSSIBLY -- when you are dealing with one of these multiple language dubs. I say possibly because everything depends on the original language of the video. The original language of the video might not be the language you hear when you click the play button in the player on the YouTube web page. The French discussion happens to show one such case. Look. It's YouTube. They are unpredictable. You just have to deal with it.

I un-installed and installed and registered. That worked and can download in English.

But after 22 videos (replacing the ones with bad audio), Every video started to fail to download?

You got to 22? That's actually pretty good. You'll want to read #2190. This has been a hot topic here recently. This points out a reason to read other discussions besides your own. You'd have been prepared for this failure.

Oh. One other thing. When you switch from the beta channel to the general availability channel, or from the general availability channel to the beta channel, you do not have to uninstall VDH. You can install the beta version over top of the general availability version & that switches you into the beta channel. You can install the general availability version over top of the beta version & that switches you into the general availability channel. So it's much easier than it might seem. The only way to have both a general availability version & a beta version of VDH installed at the same time in the same Firefox is to create multiple Firefox profiles & install whichever version of VDH you want in different profiles. Then you have to switch profiles to access the different versions of VDH. I personally have not done this. I would expect that only the most dedicated of product testers would bother. You can also install a beta version or nightly version of Firefox & install a different VDH in that compared to your general availability Firefox. In such an additional Firefox, once again you can use multiple profiles to install multiple versions of VDH. Again, only a dedicated product tester would bother with something that complicated. For the typical run-of-the-mill user (example: me), you have just one Firefox & just one profile with just one VDH.

after removing the beta and installing 9.5.0.2 I was able to download a number of youtube videos yesterday.

Then Every video failed.

Today .. Every video is failing? There is no longer an option to report the issue in VDH?

Other than changing from the older beta to the newer 9.5.0.2, over the weekend I had to reset a google mail login and used the virtual machine I use to download videos?

I deleted all those cookies for gmail, and went back to a virtual machine image from a year ago, but .. I'm completely dead as far as downloading.

As if I can download, I end up viewing a number of YouTube's ads, this seems counterproductive as otherwise, I just won't use Youtube anymore?

I've got a Firefox extension called Cookie Manager. Kind of a generic name but that's what it's called. The author goes by the name Rob W. I offer that as a way to make sure you're looking at the same extension. This extension can do a lot of manipulations of cookies. All I have ever done with it is delete selected cookies. This is an advantage over the Firefox standard tool in the Firefox settings. If you use the Firefox tool, it doesn't just delete cookies. It also deletes related cache entries. If you have a cache of any substantial size, cleaning the cache can take rather a long time. So I like to use this extension instead.

What I'm getting around to is I wonder if there's some leftover cookies in your Firefox that are telling YouTube that you have been naughty & are not to be allowed to use YouTube properly. You might want to clear whatever YouTube cookies you can find & see if that makes any difference. I want to be sure you understand this is a complete wildass guess & I have no idea if this will work. But you're basically dead in the water anyway so what do you have to lose?

Google has devised .. many .. ways to 'fingerprint' a user. All sorts of information is reporting to them by your browser, screen size, number of colors, an amazing amount of info from the browser, internet ip, operating system, client browser, etc. google knows who you are.

I deleted all youTube cookies (sorted by date). Restarted. Watched a few ads. clicked on a few links in the ads. And has able to download 2 videos. I'll try again later.

My guess is that google will Notice if you make them money by clicking thru on ads. And why would they Every block you if you actually generate clicks (which pay google a lot more)?

Just an untested theory.
