Companion application not found, FF Nightly, Coapp custom location #2266

I do not work for VDH. I am just another user. Also, please read #2214. This is a wild guess. Take it for what it's worth. I think you've got leftover registry entries from your first uninstall & your second install did not complete successfully because of it. Try doing the uninstall of the CoApp via Revo Uninstaller. Do a web search to find it. Revo is free for home users but paid for commercial users. Sounds like you're trying to do a home user kind of operation on a work computer. That's kind of shaky to start with. But in any case, if you can run Revo on this computer with a clear conscience, I'd recommend trying that. I suppose the question needs to be asked: Why do you want VDH on a work computer? Wouldn't your employer frown on that? If there's a legitimate business reason for putting VDH on this work computer, then you should be able to convince the powers that be to grant you administrator privileges, at least long enough to get VDH & the CoApp properly installed. If you can't provide a business justification, quit trying to abuse corporate resources & just wait until you get home to download whatever you want. The reason I think there's been an incomplete uninstall is that I have the registry key you quote in your original post. Your computer does not. That tells me something went wrong with the install & you need to try to clear the slate & start over. As Ann Elk would say, this is my guess & it is mine. |

Your question
Since I am on a AD secured work computer, I had to install the app inside
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Firefox Nightly\DownloadHelper CoApp\
.I did this two times. First time with firefox running, then uninstalled and reinstalled while firefox was closed completely.
reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Mozilla\NativeMessagingHosts\net.downloadhelper.coapp
Returns
ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value.
Is there anything I can do to help VDH find the companion app? I assume it has to do with vdhcoapp.exe or something not being in my PATH, which I can't control because i lack administrative privileges.
System info:
Windows 11 Business
Version 24H2
Firefox Nightly 128.0a1 (2024-05-27) (64-bit)
Note: I know this FF version is many times gorgozola old, but it has to do with another addon's compatibility.
Addon & CoApp version and details
Version 9.5.0.2 (stable), target mozilla, locale en-US.
Companion App not installed (but it is, just not according to VDH)
No such native application net.downloadhelper.coapp
