Videos don't play with VLC

I find anytime I download something with Videodownloadhelper it just opens without playing and flashes, again and again, as if the application (VLC) has crashed. I don't know if it's that I'm downloading incorrect video files, if it's a setting in the extension I need to use, or if something else is wrong. I also find that sometimes there are 10 or more options of files to download, which should I be using? It's very confusing for a first time user.

Maybe the files aren't right, do they have video and audio ?

They are .mp4 files. Usually those contain both. How would I check? Are there codec settings in the extension I can tweak? And is there any way to get just ONE option to download? I'm baffled by the panoply of choices, all which seem identical.

(I'm trying to save someone's Facebook story, by the way, if that is any help.)

I'm not too worried about high quality so this might work, but how do I change it to "m" though? If I put "m" into the URL bar, when the page loads the URL is replaced again with "www." Is there a place in Videodownloadhelper that I can put the URL in directly?

In Firefox's URL bar, I'm leaving everything the same and just replacing "www" with "m" but if I then try to load the page, htaccess or such is changing it back to www.

If there's a different place to enter the URL, such as a direct place in the extension, then I don't know where that is.

Alright Facebook is making things difficult. Some methods that should work. Although I tested something, it went to mobile link
but they made the page blank. See how you go with it.

1. Ctrl+Shift+M to open device emulation mode. Choose a Galaxy or iphone device.
2. Add a user agent switcher extension. Once added, choose a mobile device.
3. Make the url mbasic.facebook.com ( I'm not a facebook user, don't know if it works )

Using the Cntl-Shift-M, mbasic method worked! A bit of additional work but vastly better than before! Thank you!
