VDH Beta 9.5.0.0 and stable 9.5.0.2. stopped detecting videos on Youtube yesterday with Firefox 141.0

Hi everone!

Yesterday Video Download Helper suddenly stopped detecting any video's on Youtube (still works on other sites).

I was on Video Download Helper Beta version 9.5.0.0 with Coapp version 2.0.19 with Firefox 141.0., and I have a license for VDH.

I now upgraded to the normal stable version of VDH, 9.5.0.2 but that did not help. Still no video's detected on Youtube at all.

And I somehow don't seem to be able to find a link to higher Beta versions of VDH for Firefox...

Can anyone help?

Hi,
Did you download a lot recently? It seems Youtube is blocking some IPs when there are "too many" downloads.
We keep an eye on this.

Well I certainly downloaded more than the previous month, but not excessively much I would say.

If Youtube is indeed blocking IPs, wouldn't that mean I shouldn't be able to view video's either? Or would they be able to block dowloading only?

Would switching to a VPN help?

I don't get anything detected on youtube either, but VPN disconnected or connected to two different outlets doesn't help.

It's gone nondeterministic. Various places over VPN would detect but fail the download. Then got a few successes with VPN disconnected, followed by alternating successes and failures. Audio only had better success rate. Must be network glitchiness.

There is a discussion of general availability VDH vs beta VDH over here: #2185. You did not "downgrade" to the general availability version. The current general availability version of VDH for Firefox is 9.5.0.2. The current latest beta version of VDH for Firefox is 9.5.0.0. Note those version numbers. The general availability version is newer than the beta . . . at the moment. This has historically not always been true. It is true now. It will likely not be true at some future date.

Meanwhile, YouTube blocks users according to some algorithm I have been unable to find explained anywhere on the web. I have done web searches. You should, too. Everything I have found is full of weasel words. There is no place that says, "If you do x downlaods, you will be blocked." Nowhere it says, "If you download x Gig of content, you will be blocked." There is also nowhere it says, "If you are blocked, the block will be lifted after x minutes/hours." No concrete numbers. Only vague hand-waving discussions that help only a little. Do your own searches. Maybe you'll be more successful than I was. Using a VPN can help for a while, but if you download a lot, the VPN will eventually be victimized as well. Maybe switching to another VPN point of presence will help. Maybe. I wish there were proper, concrete documentation of this blocking algorithm. It would help a lot. This issue has been discussed at great length in #2190.

Downloading from YouTube seems quite intermittent. I rebooted our router so I would get a new IP address, but that didn't work. Then turning on the VPN didn't work even though it did the trick yesterday. So I restarted the Mac, but no go. What did work was to turn on the VPN again, Quit and reboot Firefox, and then it worked. FWIW, I don't download a lot from YouTube, but this is a workshop I paid for and it's only available for a few months.

I hope we can get the direct links working rather than the playlist m3u8 ones. All the online ones seem to use the more direct links and you can still chain a lot on the direct ones it only seems to be the playlists mmode VDH is on they are doing it to.

Oddly this week I tried a different approach flawing the entire 40 tracks so they just stand in the line without moving becasue there is too many hoping they stick with a blue ok signal before they start not a red one and that worked last time I did it that tactic stopped working but I guess I wasn't quick enough on the flawing tactic before.
