Help! Download Helper not working and license not installing

Hello! just bought a new computer (Mac Mini) and the DownloadHelper I've been using on Firefox stopped working; it picks up the media but when I ask it to download I just get a spinning wheel at 0%. I tried removing the add-on and adding it back but that didn't help. When I go to Settings, I get a spinning wheel on "Verifying Companion App…" and an empty square that says "License not set." I went ahead and purchased a new license in case there was some problem in switching computers, but when I enter the registration code I just get another spinning wheel, and if I try to follow the direct link from the purchase email (" to reinstall your license in your browser…") I get a page that says "Checking license timed out. Are you sure Video DownloadHelper 7.x is running in your browser ?" What am I doing wrong? Any and all advice welcome. Thank you!

I just followed that link and downloaded it and tried to install but the installation failed. :(

did you try the pkg, or the dmg?

I tried it originally as pkg. Just tried it as dmg and got this message: "The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again." I did as instructed but still no luck
