Youtube Videos not downloading

Sadly we failed at downloading that specific media. Error on any video I try downloading on youtube. Tried in Private mode and normal browsing as well.

You should give at least one URL of something that doesn't download for you. I have no trouble with YouTube, but then I don't download dozens of YouTube clips. Maybe I'm just avoiding the problems discussed in #2190. Maybe you aren't.

Perhaps clearer but no less puzzling. Three computers with the same IPV4 address? I would have hoped that your home DHCP server would have given them different addresses. But like I say, I've never used such a setup so maybe that's normal. Oh. Wait. That external site is generating this information. I should hope that when you open the network status applet on each computer, you see 3 different IPV4 addresses there. But now I see what you were getting at about YouTube blocking all 3 computers. If YouTube detects them the same way that other site does, then if any one of them gets blocked, they will all be victimized. I did nslookup on www.youtube.com. It's showing 4 IPV6 addresses & 15 IPV4 addresses. I don't know if you can influence whether you communicate with YouTube over IPV4 or IPV6. And even then, if you did connect to one of YouTube's IPV6 addresses, would it talk back to you on your IPV6 address? I don't know how it would work. I suppose carefully looking at the Resource Monitor would tell you what YouTube is doing. In general, it is my understanding that the choice of IPV4 or IPV6 for any given connection is not really a concern for either a user or any software program. Things just happen transparently. There's no speed advantage of either IP version over the other. You get whatever the serving site decides to use, & that decision probably has to do with their own internal load balancing. Neither the user nor his software is supposed to care.

First, just to clear up one question, I do have IPv6 enabled on all laptops and on my router:

As is visible in the details on the left, Windows sees my laptops as each having a unique IPv4 address of the form 192.168.1.xxx, allocated by the DHCP on the router. It's only when I get a view from outside my local network, e.g. by looking on whatismyipaddress.com, that all three have a quite different IPv4 address, such as 188.62.94.77, the same one for all of them. Here's a snippet from Google AI which explains this situation:

That leaves you wondering how a reply to an outgoing message ever finds its way back to the original sender, given that all senders in the local network have the same public IPv4 address. The thing I don't understand yet – and you raised the same question – is when does a network connection use IPv4 and when IPv6? I found some answers to this question on the superuser forum (https://superuser.com/questions/403716/how-do-client-applications-know-to-use-ipv4-or-ipv6), of which one (originally written in 2012) was this:

It's interesting, after that remark about "most browsers", that the following screenshot of the Resource Monitor (bottom panel) on one of my Win10 laptops suggests that Firefox (141.0.3) often uses IPv4. I wonder (and so did you) if it does that when I connect to Youtube. I don't know yet. But if it did it would see connections from my three laptops as coming from different ports at the same IPv4 address. I hope it would keep these separate when applying its punitive limits.

That last image answers my only remaining question. I see both IPV4 & IPV6 addresses in the local address column. I also see both IPV4 & IPV6 addresses in the remote address column. So there's no question now whether your IPV6 is working. It is. I think we are also coming to the agreement that YouTube will see only one IPV4 address so if you get spanked when you're connected to YouTube via IPV4, all your computers will suffer. If you are lucky enough to get an IPV6 connection to YouTube, the spanking will be restricted to only one computer, should it run afoul of YouTube's mysterious criteria for imposing a spanking. Meanwhile, I thank you for your AI & Wikipedia snapshots. Most informative.

Now why do you not see 2 different leases? Well, you're on Windows 10 & I'm on Windows 11. That has to explain the difference. I think it's an utterly insignificant difference. As long as the leases are managed according to the international standards, it is totally transparent whether you have a single lease for both IP versions like you have, or a separate lease for each IP version like I have. We are both getting Internet access & that's all that matters.

The pattern of lease renewals on my three laptops is already pretty clear. Since they're all connected to the same router and the DHCP server that manages the leases runs on that router, they all behave similarly, as follows. A fresh lease is initially set to expire after 24 hours. An existing lease is automatically extended for a further 12 hours about 12 hours before it expires. I'm not monitoring continuously so I can't say more exactly how long before expiry the extension is done.

Thanks for your last. I'm less pessimistic than you about the spanking. From the wikipedia extract regarding NAT I get the impression that when the NAT protocol is used, as for example in an IPv4 connection to Youtube emanating from a computer connected to a router like mine, it should be clear to Youtube from the NAT standard and the format of the TCP/IP packets that the sender's IP address must be regarded as the IPv4 address and the port number taken together. If this wasn't the case, think what would happen when a dozen family members or co-workers all connected to Youtube via the same router. It would be simply bizarre if they all got spanked because the totality of their YT usage was attributed to every one of them. Though stranger things have happened.

As to why I don't get two different leases... Firstly, if this was unusual, I wouldn't expect ipconfig to accept it without a murmur. Clearly ipconfig is happy to assume that if there's only one lease it covers both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. But while goggling I've also seen the explanation that in the not uncommon situation, like mine, where a proprietry DHCP server is running on a proprietry router, and this DHCP server is able to ensure that an IPv4 and an IPv6 are invariably allocated at the same time, it can quite reasonably be seen as more economical and practical to issue a single lease covering both. Windows and the relevant standards clearly support this. And it quite possibly simplifies expiry housekeeping.
