Can we no longer customize the download folder location; VDH videos are required to be saved to the same folder that our browser is configured for?

I did try the button to change the directory, but it brings me to the browser setting for where to save downloads, which I don't want to change (I preferred the previous design where I could have VDH downloads go to a different folder than what I have set for my browser downloads)

Sorry you can't change the destination directory anymore as v10 now uses a process directly using the browser's download functions.

I imagine that's surely a feature many people enjoy being able to customize

Probably not, sorry.
We know that some users will miss it, but v10 has many advantages, especially in terms of performance. Unfortunately, the new architecture does not allow you to select a download directory separately from the one used by the browser.

I am using version 9.5.0.1, and my Chrome Browser is set to "Ask where to save each file before downloading". So, if it uses the browser's download functions, why can't I select the folder before I download the file? This is a feature that really saves a lot of time. I am a bit distressed that I am now going to have to either copy and paste or cut and paste the downloaded video to the folder where I need it to be. So, why isn't it using the browser settings to ask first before downloading?

There are a few things to consider in regards to browser downloading.

The video needs to be an mp4 file like https://old.bitchute.com/video/mUYRVhSTv3DG/ for the browser to download it.
Chunked videos won't use the browser.

There is a setting in VDH to not use the companion app where possible ( the box needs to be checked )

When you download, use download as.

Matt, with VDH 10, which is apparently not yet available for Chrome or Firefox, there is no CoApp. I have no idea what sort of magic Paul has come up with to do chunked downloads with the browser's download engine, but that appears to be what he's done. Maybe he's got ffmpeg embedded within the browser extension now. I can only surmise that whatever he's doing in Edge, he can't set the target directory directly. Your idea to use Download As is a good one. That may or may not cause a file selection dialog to open, which would then offer the chance to set the download directory for that download. But I don't have Edge so I don't have this newfangled VDH 10 for Edge that seems to have people so up in arms. Jérôme says changing the directory is beyond the capabilites of VDH 10 for Edge. I'm sure he got that information straight from Paul. In addition, if this is now the case, I would expect that Paul is working mightily to fix that, because it's a ridiculous restriction. But things are apparently as Jérôme describes above. I would hope that my idea below can be a workaround for the time being. That relies on Edge being somewhat similar to Firefox in its settings. But since I've never used Edge, I don't know if my idea holds any water. Do you?

I was answering BarbaraG526 who is still on version 9 in chrome. But in version 10 there is download as which does provide a dialog.
I'm not sure if @deviledlettuce has done this yet. The download is still done in the browser but the dialog comes up after the
download finishes if it is a chunked format. For standard mp4 files the dialog should come up before the download starts.
It sounds a little confusing but there is a dialog for choosing directory if download as is chosen in version 10.

I didn't have it set because I hadn't run into this problem before, typically it was seamless just having VDH downloads go to the dwhelper folder or whereever else i chose & then every non-VDH download would just default to my download folder... I did go in and change it to ask where to download now, it will be a bit irritating/tedious some days more than others but I suppose I'll survive lol.

I cant remember if my 2nd lifetime license was on chrome or firefox, but maybe i'll change to using that one more if it's not on version 10 yet... Firefox would make sense for me actually, since it seems to be the only browser that supports unlimited PIP windows. (dont understand why Edge/Chrome still only support one😒)

I do not work for VDH. I am just another user. Also, please read #2214.

I use Firefox so I don't have VDH 10 for Edge. But I have an idea based on how Firefox works. Before you initiate your VDH download, go into the Chrome settings & change the default download directory. It's a bit clumsy & annoying, but it might give you the functionality you're looking for. You might need to change the Chrome setting before each download, but at least you get some control over your target download directory.
