I have yet to successfully download anything at all on any site. It sees the media fine, then invariably fails within seconds of clicking download. Is there anything that can fix it? or is it just done?

It's functional, have you checked anti virus and firewall are not blocking the companion app.

...the beta is not newer than the general availability version. Historically, the beta is the latest version but that is not true at the moment. Doubtless it will be true at some point in the future, but not now. Upgrade to the general availability version. Also, read this before you install the general availability version: #1641.

Yes, I had noticed the beta version was posted way back in May. Reverting to G/A 9.5.0.2 seems to behave much, much better.

If those are special YouTube videos that you paid for, it's possible they are protected by DRM or stealth DRM. By stealth DRM, I mean they have done something internal that doesn't look like DRM to Firefox but it still blocks downloading. On the other hand, this could just be the issue of long standing that age-restricted content is something VDH doesn't understand. This particular content may not be age-restricted, but logging onto YouTube seems to cause problems for VDH . . . sometimes.

As for what's relevant in discussion #2451 that I cited upthread, it's got a summary explanation of the YouTube IP blocking behavior. Read it. I know the discussion is relevant. You need to read it.

i did read it. the ONLY practical comment was the one by chrisfortin that mentions private windows. nothing else is of practical use.

Try changing ip with a vpn. There is a theory youtube blocks ip if you've done too many downloads. Does this help ?
