September 7, 2025: YouTube videos downloading with German audio instead of English

That video was obviously created in English, and the audio is English while playing online; however, when downloaded, the audio track in the download is German. This has happened to me before, perhaps a year ago. As far as I can tell, there is no way to ensure the audio downloaded is the same as the audio being played.

Does anyone know why this is happening? I suspect it is part of Google's ongoing campaign against time shifting and fair use.

First off, the beta is no longer the latest version of VDH for Firefox. Historically, the beta is newer but at the moment, that is not true. You need to upgrade to the general availability version available at the Mozilla add-ons repository. Before you do that, be sure to read this: #1641.

As for the language issue, you ought to have been able to find a lot of discussion of this issue elsewhere on this forum. You're supposed to search for answers before you post what is a duplicate question. You want to study #1707.

As a general rule, whenever you see anything like Show x previous replies or Show next x replies be sure you click those. GitHub has a nasty habit of hiding important posts. They think it's more efficient to hide large chunks of discussions. It's not. Be sure to click those links wherever you see them.
