Search is not working: /index.json missing

Hello Community,

I deleted all my wordpress blogs and am building everything with Hugo/Papermod. I'm getting by so far. But I'm failing with the search. I have set up all the directory and file paths and can also call up the search page. But the function does not work. I get a 404 in the console for the file /index.json, which is expected in the root. I have a monolingual, German blog.
