Description
UPDATE: Sans v2.005 has not fixed this issue because unfortunately this was posted too late into the development cycle when the update was so close to being released, so this issue will remain open.
While checking the JP variant glyphs for remapping, I noticed that the fourth and fifth vertical strokes of the 賁 component are touching the 貝 component. I feel this is an unnecessary regional difference for CN as most commercial typefaces (except for Heiti SC) do not do this (except for U+3FCE 㿎 and U+9EC2 黂, probably because the component is smaller so optical design might have to be considered) and I am proposing some changes to fix this.
The Unicode charts show that the CN source does not have the vertical strokes touching the 貝 component.
Even Serif does not have the vertical strokes touching the 貝 component.
Strangely, the simplified 贲 components are not affected as the affected strokes do not touch the 贝 component.
Here are the list of affected characters in table format.
Unicode | Character | Action |
---|---|---|
U+3C75 | 㱵 | Adjust CN glyph |
U+3FCE | 㿎 | KIV. I think even if the component is smaller, consider adjusting the CN glyph, so the 4th and 5th vertical strokes do not touch the horizontal strokes. If this makes the optical design worse, please ignore this character.![]() |
U+4488 | 䒈 | Adjust CN glyph |
U+4A7F | 䩿 | Adjust CN glyph |
U+4D05 | 䴅 | Adjust CN glyph |
U+61A4 | 憤 | Remove CN and TW glyphs and replace them with an unreleased JP glyph (Kozuka Gothic reference included) for all regions as per issue #425. The unreleased JP glyph should be based on uni61A4uE0101-JP.![]() ![]() |
U+6B55 | 歕 | Adjust CN glyph for Heavy only. ExtraLight is fine.![]() |
U+7FB5 | 羵 | Remove CN glyph and use TW glyph for all regions![]() |
U+7FF8 | 翸 | While this looks fine, suggest to adjust CN glyph to match TW glyph balance![]() |
U+87E6 | 蟦 | Remove TW glyph and use JP glyph for all regions![]() |
U+943C | 鐼 | Remove CN glyph and use TW glyph for all regions![]() |
U+96AB | 隫 | Adjust CN glyph |
U+9959 | 饙 | Adjust CN glyph |
U+99A9 | 馩 | Adjust CN glyph |
U+9EC2 | 黂 | KIV. I think even if the component is smaller, consider adjusting the CN, TW and HK glyphs, so the 2nd, 4th and 5th vertical strokes do not touch the horizontal strokes. If this makes the optical design worse, please ignore this character.![]() |
